To give up your old habit, do nothing about the old behavior!
This teaches your brain that if you don't get used to it, you won't die. When you accept and experience this feeling, an efficient cycle begins.
Happiness comes from four brain chemicals: Dopamine, Endorphins, Oxytocin, Serotonin.
Dopamine is released when you love someone or something. While doing something you love, such as playing the piano or golf, a sense of reward comes into play and dopamine is secreted.
Similarly, exercise has been proven to increase the level of dopamine in the brain. It`s worth to go for a run after busy working day!
You need to repeat the new behavior every day, or you will choose the other way. You may not be happy on the first day of your new behavior, and this is normal.
Proceed with realistic expectations.
Here is the trick: if you want to raise your serotonin, focus on your happiness.
